NICKI COZZOLINO F/W 2012 SHOW

The Nicki Cozzolino F/W Collection showed a nice association of pastel color pieces (essentially beige and orange) with gold details and colored polka dots. The silk dresses and skirts were delicate and feminine, just like the black transparent blouses. The brown and taupe blazers, coats and leather jackets were elegant and nicely cut. The most original pieces were the trousers up to the knee, unexpectedly worn with tights. Overall, each piece had some singularity and made the collection vibrant with shape and style.

MARLON GOBEL F/W 2012 SHOW

“The Heist”. As the electro music filled the room I didn’t know what to expect, but when the show began I was mesmerized by the many gold details, sparkles and luxurious outfits in reminiscence of the greatest criminals and thieves in the history of America, such as the overly elegant Thomas Crown or the legendary Bonnie & Clyde from whom Marlon Gobel got his inspiration. And to make it even more special, he collaborated with Swarovski to design crystal bow ties and buttons. The result was mind-blowing. Cashmere trousers and coats echoed with silk ties and bow ties and sometimes with gold zippers and buttons to add fierceness to the looks. I liked the super shiny Swarovski details that came with the fur coats and tweed suits. The unexpected combination of red, navy blue, deep purple and light grey rendered beautifully as well.

COREY LYNN CALTER F/W 2012 PRESENTATION

Any girl who loves clashing prints and vibrant colors would love any pieces shown at Corey Lynn Calter Show. From the moment I stepped into the presentation, vibrant bursts of colors in different panels already hinted what the collection consisted of. The girls walked in fun and fresh outfits- somewhat flirty especially with the overall styling. Big bangles and cute clutches. Small details of pleating overpowered simple blouses whether it be in the sleeves or the front section of the blouses. Retro glamour might have been the word that could best describe this collection as the prints and bold eyeliner dominated the presentation.

STEVEN ALAN F/W 2012 PRESENTATION.

Boyfriend shirts, chinos, and suit jackets stood out to me the most at the Steven Alan Presentation. The clothes were wearable and well made with sharp tailoring. You could see that the women’s clothes were somewhat inspired by the mens pieces. Most outerwear pieces such as the wool sweaters, cardigans, and jackets had the essence of a “tomboy” look. Needless to say, there was an effortless vibe in the way the clothes hugged the body. To accentuate the beauty of the garments, fedoras, leather belts, contrasted gloves, and brogue-like shoes were added.

THIS FASHION WEEK.

So it’s the first “official” day of fashion week.  I feel like I’ve never attended before and this is my 6th season going to shows.  I’ve attended the past 5 seasons for ErinJeen.com, solely writing reviews for the site.  I remember my first fashion week; I was lucky enough to have 1 season at the now extinct Bryant Park.  I’ve watched the industry change so much and I have also changed so much in the past 3 years.  This is the most stressful time of the year for me, (although the media portrays it to be a glamorous occasion, anyone in the industry tells you it calls for lots and lots of misery), I’m going into it this time around with a brand new perspective.

As I said, I’ve been attending to write reviews for the site.  I received a record-high 78 invites this season and am working with a team of 5 to get you all coverage.  The reason I feel so differently about this season than others is that I have a different reason to be here.  I’m not just a “fashion blogger”.  I can say that I own an online store and am viewing collections as a buyer.  I am watching each model strut down the runway to consider getting pieces into my store, not just to describe what I see for my “blog”.

Along with editors, buyers are the biggest players at fashion week.  Editors are putting what they see in magazines, buyers are putting what they see in stores for the world to get their hands on.  I am so thrilled to be a part of such an influential group of people and I can’t wait to bring you all the goods I find!  I am most excited for Erickson Beamon tonight at Milk, who I absolutely MUST get for ShopJeen.com

Please stay tuned for more tales from fashion week!

OBAKKI F/W 2012 PRESENTATION

What seems to define the Obakki FW12 Collection is the contrast between the delicate and translucent silk pieces and the more ethnic and sharp outfits. The long silk dresses were flawless. Touches of gold on the bracelets, necklaces or directly on the dresses, made each piece even more precious. The palette was classy and simple, as it went from dark green to beige and from ocher to black. I particularly liked the mixture of patterns, which gave some sharpness to the collection by the ethnic prints on the tunics and short dresses.  It went well with the thin leather belts and black leather skinny pants. The sheer cotton dresses were simple, crew neck, just like second skins. However, the woolen garment used on the coats, along with their rigid and large cut, gave some substance to the looks. Overall, I found that there was a perfect balance between a very feminine and yet confident style, which was more than inspiring.
